Şebnem Graf sebnemgraf@sehir.edu.tr Office: East 427 Assistants Goals Learning Outcomes Course Content Assessment Criteria In UNI 215, students build on the abilities gained at the basic-user level by adding length and complexity to the language and use the language in a greater range of areas. The course aims that the students confidently narrate and describe in past, present and future, understand when listening and reading authentic prose on familiar subjects such as news stories and public matters of personal and general interest, practice taking part in discussions and caryying out projects. UNI 215 is designed to prepare students to be more independent users of the language while improving all their communicative (listening, reading, writing, speaking) skills through lectures, drills and projects as well as literature, songs and movie clips. 1. Gain ability to narrate current, past and future events in writing and speaking in Turkish as a foreign language. 2. Learn to answer factual questions about authentic texts in Turkish as a foreign language. 3. Gain ability to describe persons, places and things in detail in Turkish as a foreign language. 4. Practice taking part in discussions, giving, justifying and asking for opinions simply in Turkish as a foreign language. 5. Practice carrying out independent projects in Turkish as a foreign language. 6. Learn to express ability, obligation, wishes and doubt in Turkish as a foreign language. In proficiency-based teaching method, authentic reading and listening materials such as stories, songs, news pieces and clips are introduced to prepare students for real life communicative purposes. It takes into account student motivation and interests and respects diverse ways of learning. Balancing topic, task and accuracy, proficiencybased teaching method incorporates achievement-based tasks as well. Assessment Components No component may have more than 40% weight.
