Karakaya Karmaşığı: Eleştirel Bir Derleme
C. Ü. JEOLOJİ MÜHENDİSLİĞİ BÖLÜMÜ 30. YIL SEMPOZYUMU – 11-13 Ekim 2012 - Sivas Karakaya Karmaşığı: Eleştirel Bir Derleme Sema TETİKER 1, Hüseyin YALÇIN 2 1 Batman Üniversitesi, Jeoloji Mühendisliği Bölümü, 72100, Batman, Türkiye Üniversitesi, Jeoloji Mühendisliği Bölümü, 58140, Sivas, Türkiye sema.tetiker@batman.edu.tr, yalcin@cumhuriyet.edu.tr 2 Cumhuriyet Jura-öncesi Paleotetis ile ilişkili birimler (Permo-Karbonifer kireçtaşı blokları içeren Alt Triyas yaşlı düşük dereceli metamorfikler); Kuzeybatı Anadolu’da Bingöl vd. YIL SEMPOZYUMU – 11-13 Ekim 2012 - Sivas Karakaya Complex: A Critical Review Sema TETİKER 1, Hüseyin YALÇIN 2 1 Batman University, Department of Geological Engineering, 72100, Batman, Turkey University, Department of Geological Engineering, 58140, Sivas, Turkey sema.tetiker@batman.edu.tr, yalcin@cumhuriyet.edu.tr 2 Cumhuriyet Pre-Jurassic units (Lower Triassic low-grade metamorphics containing Permo-Carboniferous limestone blocks) related to Paleotethys were first defined as Karakaya Formation in the northwestern Anatolia by Bingöl et al. (1975). Permo-Triassic orogenic units were recalled as Karakaya Complex (KC) by Şengör et al. (1984) based on the interpretations of Tekeli (1981). KC is located within the Sakarya Continent (Brinkmann, 1966), Sakarya Zone (Okay, 1984) or Sakarya Composite Unit (Göncüoğlu et al., 1997) between Intra-Pontide and İzmir-AnkaraErzincan sutures according to tectonic classification of Göncüoğlu et al. (1997). The most important feature of KC units are only limited to Western-Central Pontides (Okay and Göncüoğlu, 2004). KC is subdivided into two parts (Tekeli, 1981). Of these, Lower Karakaya Complex (LKC) is structurally and possibly stratigraphically situated in the lower part and represented by rocks metamorphosed in the greenschist and partly blueschist facies during the Late Paleozoic or Triassic (Okay and Göncüoğlu, 2004). As for Upper Karakaya Complex (UKC), it consists of highly deformed siliciclastic and volcanogenic rocks of Permian or Triassic age with exotic limestone blocs of Permo-Carboniferous age (Bailey and McCallien, 1950). The evolutionary hypotheses about KC, one of the products related to closure of Paleotethys, were established on the basis of geological data obtained from the west of Sakarya Composite Unit and expressed in three models: Rift (Bingöl et al., 1975; Yılmaz, 1981; Şengör and Yılmaz, 1981; Şengör, 1984; Şengör et al. 1984; Koçyiğit, 1987; Yılmaz et al., 1994; Genç and Yılmaz, 1995; Göncüoğlu et al., 2000; Turhan et al., 2004), subduction (Kozur, 1997; Stampfli, 2000; Stampfli et al., 2001; Stampfli and Borel, 2002; Moix et al., 2008) and subduction-accretion (Tekeli, 1981; Robertson and Dixon, 1984; Pickett et al., 1995; Pickett and Robertson, 1996, 2004; Okay, 2000). The units of LKC (Nilüfer Unit, Turhal Metamorphites) contain rock types corresponding blueschist (glaucophane phyllite and schists, muscovite and actinolite schists) in the lower levels and greenschist (phyllite, slate, metabasalt, metatuff, metagabbro, metadiabase, marble, metasandstone) facies according to lithological, mineralogical-petrographical and geochemical findings in the Northwestern Anatolia and Tokat areas (Tetiker et al., 2009, Tetiker, 2010, 2011). As to UKC units (Hodul, Orhanlar, Çal), they are made up of psammitic (sandstone, siltstone), pelitic (mudstone, shale), volcanic (spilitic basalt) and carbonate rocks (dolomite, limestone, clayey limestone). Clay mineral paragenesis of KC units has generally chlorite and/or illite/mica in composition. b0 values of K-micas usually correspond to high (9.006-9.066 Å) in the LKC unit and middle pressure facies (9.000-9.048 Å). In addition, the metaclastics in the upper levels from Turhal Metamorphites contain index minerals (paragonite, prehnite) and commonly chlorite-mica pods. The data given above and similar studies (e.g., Milodowski and Zalasiewicz, 1991; Merriman, 2005; Bozkaya and Yalçın, 2005, 2010), which indicate convergent basins for LKC units and extension basins for UKC units from KC. LKC units correspond to subduction zone for lower parts (blueschist) and accretion prism for upper parts 60 C. Ü. JEOLOJİ MÜHENDİSLİĞİ BÖLÜMÜ 30. YIL SEMPOZYUMU – 11-13 Ekim 2012 - Sivas (greenschist) and represent diagenetic and/or anchimetamorphic conditions with first P-T-t in clockwise and then anticlockwise. As a conclusion, KC volcanosedimenary sequence were separated to tectonic slices by deforming with the effects of Cimmerian and Alpine orogenesis as well as diagenetic-metamorphic evolutions and lost their original positions, and as a result data corresponding to different meanings were emerged. In other words, none of models in the literature are fully corresponded to the geotectonic evolution of the KC. It appears to be explained by subduction model for the formations of LKC and whereas rift model for UKC units. Key Words: Paleotethys; Triassic; mineralogy; diagenesis; metamorphism.
