FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: East Bay Mini Maker Faire Shows Off Creativity, Craft, DIY Tech, and Culture in Oakland on October 16th Earlybird Ticket Prices Available Through September 30th Oakland, CA — September 20, 2011 The 2nd Annual East Bay Mini Maker Faire, scheduled for Sunday, October 16th will feature a spectacular line up of new and returning makers, performers, food vendors, and speakers. Attracting over 3000 attendees in its first year, the event is a celebration of do-it-yourself spirit and hands-on making. It’s appropriate for anyone intrigued by the creativity and ingenuity of the East Bay community, and a don’t-miss day for families, makers, foodies, music-lovers, art-goers and more. More than 120 exhibits, performances and workshops are booked for the event, including: • A new Homesteader Stage on DIY domestic arts with Novella Carpenter, author of Farm City, and Institute for Urban Homesteading founder, K. Ruby Blume. • Chris Anderson, editor-in-chief of Wired Magazine, demoing and discussing the latest UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) do-it-yourself drones. • Booths to make and launch your own rocket, swipe a screen print, make butter, learn how to solder, make your own loom, bind a book, build a Rainbow LightPipeSaber, and more • Arduino 101 workshops throughout the day with introductions to this extremely hot open-source electronics prototyping platform. • A new food truck "court" featuring Fist of Flour, Butterfat Bakery, Oakland’s very first taco truck Zamoranos, and others from the Oakland Mobile Food Group alliance. • A panel discussion on 21st Century Shop Class: Developing the Creative and Critical Doers in Today's Schools with shop teacher David Clifford of the East Bay School for Boys, and Eric Temple, Head of School, Lick-Wilmerding High School. • The East Bay’s best crafters, selling their lovely wares to those interested in getting a head start on holiday shopping. • More pedal-powered carnival magic with Paul’s Rides, including his 3-seat ferris wheel, the “StarWheel.” • A new “Wreck Lab” led by Andrew Sliwinski of United Workshop, where you can take apart a toaster or an old cell phone. And the return of Peter Mui's Fix It Clinic, where you can bring your broken toaster and put it back together. • Live music by The Conspiracy of Beards, Old Tunnel Road, The Blondies, and Eurostache, Crank Ensemble, and more.
