2013-2014 ACADEMIC YEAR Physical Education and Sports Activities SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 1 of 21 Dear Parent, A new program called “Successful Students - Successful Sportspersons” has been designed in order to ensure that the students are engaged in sports activities more and that their academic and sports performance levels are increased. A new software program has been purchased to support the implementation of the program. The team of sports teachers has been enhanced, the facilities have been renewed and two tennis courts have been built as a requirement of the new sports program. In addition to the physical education and sports activities and the “Successful Students Successful Sportspersons” program, a branch-specific head coach-coaching system has been introduced. The following procedure will apply to direct the students into the branches at which they are good and interested in, to follow up with them and to select players for the sports teams. The training program of the school/club teams will be announced later on. The sports activities and camps to take place at the weekends (on Saturdays and Sundays) will be arranged by TED Istanbul College Sports Club in cooperation with the Future Stars. Please see below for more detailed information about the sports program and the teachers. SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 2 of 21 PART I. 1.1 TED ISTANBUL COLLEGE SPORTS PROGRAM OBJECTIVES The sports program is intended to raise “Successful Students-Successful Sportspersons.” To achieve this, a model specifically designed by TED Istanbul College will be applied in physical education and sports practices. As a result of the implementation of the model, it is foreseen that the students will gain or achieve the followings: a) Physical, kinetic, cognitive and emotional development; b) Life-long habit of being engaged in sports activities and doing physical activities to live a healthy life; c) A good/high level of speed, strength, endurance, quickness, and coordination; d) The sense of being a “Team Player” in life by experiencing the concepts of friendship, team-spirit, solidarity and sharing; e) The knowledge of sports discipline and philosophy and the habit of living based on this discipline; f) Self-progress in terms of critical thinking, creative thinking, problem-solving, decisionmaking, goal setting, researching, communicating with people and self-management and thus, being able to make swift and correct decisions against issues; g) Self-awareness about their ability and talent in a certain branch of sports and the opportunity to improve and excel on their skills and abilities to be able to join national/international competitions and achieve outstanding success. 1.2 TRAINING MODEL TED Istanbul College Foundation Private Schools and TED Istanbul College Sports Club Association will provide sports training and activities within the framework of a new program to ensure that the students are raised as “Successful Students-Successful Sportspersons.” The main characteristics of the model are as follows: GENERAL The Anthropometric and Conditional characteristics of the students will be measured twice a year from kindergarten to the high school and the parents will be informed about the measurement results. Also, the obtained data will be stored at TED Istanbul Sports Software. SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 3 of 21 A “Student Sports Portfolio” will be created for the “Sportsmen Students” to graduate from the high school and the students will be provided assistance about scholarship options. A grade-and-age appropriate and differentiated physical education/sports program will be offered. The academic performance of the “Sportsmen Students” will consistently and closely be monitored by the trainer and in the event that the students need academic support, the trainers will contact and coordinate with the teachers to help the students fill their academic gap. In order to make sure that the academic and sports success levels of the “Sportsmen Students” are equal, an academic program/study program or private academic program will be applied by considering the competition schedule of the students. The students will be provided workout in the sports branch that they have chosen or that has been recommended for them by the school during the physical education and sports classes and social activity club hours (as of grade 4). The sports branches training to be provided by the school and the club will be managed from a single body. Integrated training/workout programs will be introduced by the school’s physical education department and the sports club. The competition schedules of the school and the club will be managed and followed up by a single body. The sports club will offer foundation courses at the weekends throughout the school year and/or during holidays and during camping organizations. Thus, the students will have the opportunity to improve their talents in a certain branch of sports and will have the chance to be listed as “Sportsmen Students.” Sports achievements will be awarded. A. PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS ACTIVITIES BY GRADE LEVELS KINDERGARTEN - 1st GRADE AND 2nd GRADE At these grade levels, the students will be provided a special program called “Basic Training Model” designed by the institution. The Basic Training includes the followings: In the Kindergarten; knowledge of physical education and sports, gymnastics, games and sports, rhythm training - dance and athletics activities, In Grades 1 and 2; an advance age-appropriate program consisting of the five main parts of the knowledge of physical education and sports, gymnastics, games and sports, rhythm training - dance and athletics activities. The program is intended to enable the students to gain the followings: Knowledge of sports and improved skills, SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 4 of 21 Flexibility and ability to use their body correctly, Sports games skills, Hand, foot and eye coordination skills, Physical development in terms of motor skills. Weekly class hours; In the Kindergarten, a total of 240 minutes of sports training is provided every month: 2 hours a week for the 3 years-olds (60 min.), 2 hours a week for the 4 years-olds (60 min.), 2 hours a week for the 5 years-olds (60 min.) (on different days), Within the social activity sports club hours, the 4 and 5 years-olds are provided one hour (60 min.) of sports training in tennis, basketball, gymnastic, creative dance and judo branches a week. GRADES 1 and 2: A total of 130 minutes of sports classes is provided every month including 2 periods (80 min.) of Physical Education and Sports class a week and 1 period (50 min.) of gymnastics, creative dance, basketball, football, judo and tennis training a week within the scope of social activity sports club hours. GRADES 3 and 4: In the 3rd and 4th grade level, the students are provided Basic Sports Training in the following 10 branches for 2 periods (80 minutes) a week in alternately 3-week periods during the physical education and sports classes: Athletics Volleyball Football Tennis Judo Gymnastics Table Tennis Archery Basketball Dance SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 5 of 21 In addition, 50 minutes of training is offered in the above-mentioned branches during the social activity sports club hours, which makes a total of 130 minutes of sports training at these grade levels a month. The program is intended to make sure that the students gain the followings: Knowledge of the basic movements and principles of the branch; Motor muscle development; coordination development; skills of flexibility, speed and quickness, selective perception and reaction, Knowledge of the basic theoretical information about the branch. As a result of the use of the above-mentioned program, the physical education and sports department will obtain information about the ability level of the students in branches and accordingly the department will identify the most appropriate branch for the students in consultancy with the students and parents. As a result of the appraisal system explained in this program booklet, as of grade 3 the students are selected for the setup teams of the school/sports club. GRADES 5- 12 An “Advanced Sports Training Model” is applied in grades 5-12. A different model is used for the students to join and not to join the school and/or sports club teams. The training model to be explained later on in this booklet will be applied for the students to join the school/club teams and the “Sportsmen Students List.” The students who cannot join the school and/or club teams are provided training on the following branches according to their skills, abilities and interests: Athletics Gymnastics Volleyball Football Tennis Judo, Table Tennis Archery Basketball Condition-fitness Pilates The students who fail to join the school/club teams or the “Sportsmen Students” list: The students in grades 5 to 12 who cannot join the school/club teams or the “Sportsmen Students” list will be provided practical and theoretical training on 11 different branches for two periods a week (80 minutes) during the Physical Education and Sports classes. SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 6 of 21 The students in grades 5-12 will be provided a total of 160 minutes of sports training during the social activity sports club activities for 2 periods a week (80 minutes). A total of 10 hours of (600 min.) practical and theoretical training will be provided every month at the foundation courses provided by the club at the weekends for 150 minutes. PART II. 1.1 SCHOOL/CLUB TEAMS/INDIVIDUAL SPORTS BRANCHES TED Istanbul College schools and the Sports Club have adopted the principle of focusing on the individual or team sports in the branches which can technically and physically be offered on the campus. In line with this principle, teams will be set up in the following branches and levels. 2.1.1 TEAMS School and Club Teams/Individual competition branches Athletics Basketball Dance Football Futsal Judo Table Tennis Archery Tennis Volleyball 2.1 ADMINISTRATIVE SYSTEM TO BE APPLIED Head Coach-Coaching system will be applied in order to raise Successful StudentsSuccessful Sportspersons and to be able to closely monitor the academic and sports performance of the students (Sportsmen Students) who play in the School/Sports Club teams or who individually compete in a sports branch. All the teachers/coaches/instructors employed by the school or club will report to the head coach of the related branch in terms of the application of the sports program and activities and in administrative terms, they will be affiliated to the school and/or club administration. SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 7 of 21 2.2 TRAINING MODEL 1. Planning the workout schedule: A total of 24-30 hours of workout will be planned for each branch for the school and club competition teams. 2. Foundation-Development Courses The foundation courses will be provided by the sports club at the weekends. Special attention will be paid to make sure that the students who take the foundation courses are transferred to school-club teams. The school’s and club’s common workout schedules and foundation courses will be supervised by the head coach. 3. Creating a sportsmen pool The sportsmen will be transferred to the teams from foundation-development courses. 4. Students in Competitor Teams and Individual Branches An “Advanced Level Sports Training Model” will be applied for the sportspersons and/or sports teams in these categories. Accordingly; The club/school common workout schedule will apply, Age-appropriate and scientifically approved workout activities will be provided, Duration of workouts and competitions will be arranged to achieve national and international success. 5. Duration of Workouts for School/Club Teams and Individual Sports A total of 24-30 hours of workout will be planned for each branch for the competition teams on different days for 1,5/2 hours depending on the requirements of each branch. The teachers will offer workout in their own branches during the physical education classes in the school (1 hour 20 min.). For the social activity sports club hours, the priority will be given to certain sports branches and team players. The students will have 2 periods of workout during the social activity sports club hours (1 hour 20 min.). The school/club teams will have after-school workouts on Fridays at 14.00-15.45 since Friday is half-day. (1 hour 45 min.). Workout days and hours are planned before the beginning of the school year and followed accordingly. The preparation period and the dates when the teams will be set up are identified in advance and announced to the students and parents before the end of the school year. PART III. ELECTING SPORTSPERSONS FOR THE SCHOOL/CLUB TEAMS – “Sportsmen Students List” A. Selection Committee SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 8 of 21 Within the first 15 days following the beginning of the school year, a selection committee/s will be established to select Sportsmen Students as players to compete in the above-mentioned sports branches and teams. The selection committee/s will consist of the following persons: Head coach of the related branch, Coach/coaches of the related branch, Physical Education and Sports Department Head. Selection Committee/s will make an assessment under the light of the following points and create the “Sportsmen Students List” to include the players to join in the school/club teams in the branches mentioned hereby as well as the individual players. Student’s performance in the previous year according to TED Sports Software data, Branch-specific technical criteria for the new players, Student’s academic performance, Physical fitness and the results of the anthropometric measurements, Personal views of the members of the selection committee and the information obtained from them. (The names on the mentioned list might be changed throughout the school year.) The names of the students on the “Sportsmen Students List” created by the committees will be submitted to the Academic Department Heads and teachers and the students will be monitored throughout the school year. The students who individually receive sports training on other branches outside the school and who individually take part in competitions can be added onto the “Sportsmen Students List” on condition that they achieve national and/or international success, play in the national team or are entitled to represent the country and certify that. In selecting sportsmen, parent-school-club cooperation is one of the main prerequisites. B. Technical assessment criteria for selecting sportsmen for the school-club teams The sportsmen will be selected for the school and club teams based on three main criteria; a) Condition and technique (motoric/anthropometric sports tests), b) Technique-tactic (workout and competition scouts and observation), c) Socio-psychology (general and branch-specific observation forms). He graduated from Trakya University, School of Physical Education and Sports. He has specialized in the branches of football and tennis. In addition, he learned foreign language and worked on several projects related to tennis in the U.K. During his sports career, Murat Avcu worked as a football and tennis trainer in many clubs. He has been working as a Physical Education and Sports teacher at TED Istanbul College since 2000 academic year and he has held the position of the Physical Education and Sports Department Head since the 2009-2010 academic year. SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 13 of 21 Engin KRATZER Tennis Coordinator Engin Kratzer graduated from Saarbrücken University, Department of Business Administration. He also received Trainer Diploma from the German Tennis Federation. He worked as a head coach at several clubs including TC Wellesweiler, Bübinger, Tennis Club, and Sarbrücken Tennis Clup. Between the years 1986-2002, Engin Kratzer worked as the technical director of the Tennis, Fencing, and Mountaineering Club (TED). During the time he was Davis Cup Trainer and Fed Cup trainer, Fed Cup team was promoted to the European 1st league for the first time and our national women team won a medal at the Mediterranean Games for the first time. Kratzer also worked as the trainer of the Turkish national tennis team. And currently, he holds the position of Tennis Coordinator at TED Istanbul College. Yalçın DİZDAR Physical Education and Sports Teacher Head Tennis Coach Yalçın Dizdar was born in Istanbul. He graduated from Marmara University, School of Physical Education and Sports. He has the 4th Level Head Coach Certificate from the Turkish Tennis Federation. He still works as the Provincial Representative of the Turkish Tennis Federation. He was involved in the Tennis Training Module Project on the International Tennis Training Model carried out by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with UNICEF. Yalçın Dizdar worked as the Age Group Trainers at the Tennis, Fencing, and Mountaineering Club and as the sports director of the Club for SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 14 of 21 many years. Dizdar has been working as a Physical Education and Sports Teachers since 2006-2007 academic year and he also holds the position of the Head Tennis Coach. Yılmaz SAĞLIK Tennis Trainer Yılmaz Sağlık was born in Istanbul. He graduated from Marmara University, School of Physical Education and Sports, Department of Tennis Training. He has a 2nd Level Tennis Trainer Certificate from the Turkish Tennis Federation. Yılmaz Sağtürk worked as a performance trainer at TED Sports Club and Istanbul Tennis Club. He also has a Certificate of Head Referee and National Referee from the Turkish Tennis Federation. He currently works as a Tennis Trainer at TED Istanbul College in the 2013-2014 academic year. Dillon BERNER Head Basketball Coach Dillon Berner is in his 15th year of coaching basketball. He has coached high school boys and girls in America while also working as a player development coach for top players in the areas. He has spent the past 4 years operating his own basketball school, Coast2Coast Basketball, in Thailand while also traveling across Asia directıng and coachıng at top basketball camps. Dillon Berner comes to TED Istanbul College with the goal to develop TED basketball players both on and off the court. He holds the position of Head Basketball Coach at TED Istanbul College in the 2013-2014 academic year. SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 15 of 21 Mehmet ÖNÜT Physical Education and Sports Teacher Basketball Coach Mehmet Önüt was born in Istanbul. He graduated from Marmara University, School of Physical Education and Sports. After playing basketball for several years, he has started to work as a basketball coach. He has the 5th Level A Category Trainer Certificate. Mehmet Önüt worked as a Setup Director and A Team Assistant Coach at significant clubs including BJK and Netaş. Some of the players that he trained have been able to play in the national basketball team. Önüt also worked as the Trainer of the Physically Disabled Sports Federation Wheelchair National Team. He was a member of the group that successfully represented our country at 2012 London Paralympic Games. Mehmet Önüt had worked at TED Istanbul College between 2000 and 2004 and he works as a Basketball Coach in 2013-2014 academic year. İsmail ŞİVİLOĞLU Physical Education and Sports Teacher Head Volleyball Coach İsmail Şiviloğlu was born in Hopa. He graduated from Near East University, Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. He worked as a physical education teacher at several public and private schools. He has specialized in football and volleyball branches and professionally played SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 16 of 21 football in many clubs. He also worked as a volleyball coach at many clubs. The volleyball teams that he trained achieved success at provincial level. İsmail Şiviloğlu has been working as a Physical Education and Sports teacher and the Head Volleyball Coach since 2010-2011 academic year. Esra KADİROĞLU Volleyball Coach Esra Kadiroğlu was born in Erzurum. She graduated from Atatürk University, Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. She professionally played volleyball at several clubs for many years. She also worked as an assistant volleyball coach and junior group volleyball coach in many sports clubs. She worked on modern and folk dances and worked as an actress at Erzurum State Theatre. In addition, she was among the dancers of the Fire of Anatolia at 2011Winter International University Games. Esra Kadiroğlu works as a Volleyball Coach at TED Istanbul College in the 2013-2014 academic year. Uğur SAKALOĞLU Physical Education and Sports Teacher Head Football Coach Uğur Sakaloğlu was born in Istanbul. He graduated from Sakarya University, School of Physical Education and Sports. He specialized on football and badminton training. During his professional sports career, Uğur Sakaloğlu played football in many clubs. He has B Level Trainer Certificate from the Turkish Football Federation and he has worked as a trainer in many clubs. He was involved in various international and local football competitions with his students and successfully represented our SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 17 of 21 school. Sakaloğlu has been working as a Physical Education and Sports teacher and Head Football Coach at TED Istanbul College since the 2003-2004 academic year. Buket DEMİRCİ Physical Education and Sports Teacher Head Athletics Coach Buket Demirci was born in Istanbul. She graduated from Marmara University, School of Physical Education and Sports. She received free-style dance training. She was a registered athlete of Beşiktaş Gymnastics Club (BJK) for many years. She worked as a Physical Education teacher at many private and public schools. She carried out athletics, dance and gymnastics activities and achieved success at various competitions held at provincial level. Buket Demirci has been working as a Physical Education and Sports teacher and Head Athletics Coach at TED Istanbul College since the 2010-2011 academic year. Mustafa PEKGÜLER Physical Education and Sports Teacher Head Table Tennis Coach Mustafa Pekgüler was born in Manisa. He graduated from Marmara University, School of Physical Education and Sports, Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. He specialized on table tennis and tennis branches at Marmara University. He worked at TED Istanbul College between 2005 and 2009. Mustafa Pekgüler has been working at TED Istanbul College as the Head Table Tennis Coach since the 2012-2013 academic year. SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 18 of 21 Gökçe MORTO Physical Education and Sports Teacher Head Judo Coach Gökçe Morto was born in Edirne. She graduated from Trakya University, Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. Her sports career started in 1999 with Judo and at 2002 she became a national judo performer. She has been an active judo competitor for 12 years, 8 of which was dedicated to the A National Judo Team. During the time she was a competitor, Gökçe Morto won the Judo World Cup Championship, and Turkey Championship. She took the 3rd place at Young Balkan Championship, 7th place at Europe and several national and international places. She worked as a Judo Coach at Edirne Köy Hizmetleri Sports Club at 2005-2007. She also worked as a Judo coach at pre-school level at 2008-2010. She worked as a fitness and Pilates trainer at 2010-2012. Gökçe Morto has been working as a Physical Education and Sports teacher and Head Judo Coach at TED Istanbul College since the 2012-2013 academic year. Aydın YOLAÇ Head Archery Coach Aydın Yolaç was born in Samsun. He graduated from Marmara University, School of Political Sciences. He started his sports career with volleyball. He worked as a Volleyball Referee and then became the Provincial Representative of Volleyball. He has been a member of the Archery Federation Board of Directors since 1980. He is a member of the Turkish National Olympics Committee and the council of archery. He also writes articles for sports magazines. Aydın Yolaç is still a member of the SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 19 of 21 Advisory council and the Disciplinary Committee at the Turkish National Olympics Committee. Yolaç has been working as the Head Archery Coach at TED Istanbul College since the 1999-2000 academic year. Seçil AKYAZI Creative Dance Teacher Seçil Akyazı was born in Bolu. She graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Turkish Music and State Conservatory. In addition to the folk dances training, she received training on Classical Ballet, Modern Dances and Latin Dances. She was a dancer at Sultans of the Dance-Anadolu Ateşi group between 1999 and 2006. She also worked as a choreograph at the project DAWOOL by the same dance group. Akyazı has been working as a Dance Teacher at TED Istanbul College since the 20122013 academic year. Selda BOĞAZLIYANLIOĞLU Physical Education and Sports Teacher Selda Boğazlıyanlıoğlu was born in Yozgat. She graduated from the Middle East Technical University, Department of Physical Education and Sports. She attended several step-aerobics and fitness training classes. She worked as a manager and trainer at many gyms when she was at university. She also worked as a physical education and sports teacher, dance and badminton club teacher at various public and private schools. The badminton players that she trained took the 2nd and 3rd places in Istanbul in junior and star categories. She attended IBO (International Baccalaureate) training in 2002-2008. She was involved in an international project organized in France, Berlin and Istanbul. Selda SEPTEMBER 2013 Page 20 of 21 Boğazlıyanlıoğlu has been working as a Physical Education and gymnastics-fitness trainer at TED Istanbul College since the 2010-2011 academic year. Damla AVCU Kindergarten Physical Education and Sports Teacher Damla Avcu was born in Trabzon. She graduated from 19 Mayıs University, School of Physical Education and Sports. She worked as a Physical Education and Sports Teacher and Trainer at several public and private schools. She professionally played basketball in various clubs and she specialized in basketball and swimming branches. Damla Avcu worked as a Basketball Coach, Swimming coach and Physical Education and Sports Teacher for 6 years in sports clubs and private schools. She has been a scout leader since 2012 under the body of the Turkish Scout Federation.
