The process of data collection, interpretation and documentation will be addressed. Students will have the opportunity to use interview, observation, percussion, palpation, inspection and auscultation in assessing of adult clients in laboratory and actual environments. (Lecture and clinical) Course Objectives This course designed to: ? Teach the students the importance of health history and physical examination on ill and well patients for planning of nursing care in adult-age groups, ? Train the students how to establish well environment for taking history and conducting physical examination, ? Teach the students how to conduct and document a complete health history in the clinical setting, ? Educate the students how to perform inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation, ? Train the students how to perform and document a complete physical examination / assessment step by step for each body systems (head-to-toe) in the clinical setting, ? Teach the students how to interpret and classify normal and abnormal signs and symptoms which are collected in health assessment and physical examination. Learning Outcomes At the conclusion of this course the student will be able to: ? Describe physical, cognitive, and psychosocial characteristics for adult-age groups, ? Explain the purpose and content of health history and conduct a complete health history on ill and well patients, and record the data, ? Establish an environment suitable for conducting a physical assessment and demonstrate inspection, palpation, percussion, auscultation in the clinical setting, ? Conduct a complete physical examination/assessment step by step for each systems using appropriate techniques on a patient (head-to-toe: behavioral and mental status, skin, head, neck, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, throat, breasts, thorax and lungs, heart and peripheral vasculature, abdomen, extremities and neurological system), ? Document a complete health history and physical examination, ? Interpret and classify normal and abnormal signs and symptoms that they collected via physical examination and history taking, ? Know how to use data gathering assessment and examination of the patient for nursing care plan. Teaching Methods ? Presentations, Question - Answer ?
